directorships

Proven management skills combined with practical experience as business owners enables us to be effective non-executive directors and trustees. In addition our reputation for independent, evidence based research and analysis not only provided insights into our clients' businesses but allows us to present our findings with objectivity and candour. We apply these same principles in our current activities, whether as a non-executive director or consultant, delivering the important role of critical friend.

In addition to her construction and property experience Sandi Rhys Jones has skills in law, communications and mediation. As non- executive director and trustee she has experience of serving on audit, remuneration and governance committees for both private enterprise and public bodies. She is familiar with the requirements of the Charity Commission and non-departmental government bodies, together with the Seven Principles of Public Life.

Roderick Rhys Jones, a civil engineer and chartered marketer, has particular experience in the not-for-profit sector, having set up and run two successful charities. British Antarctic Monument Trust to commemorate those who lost their lives in British Antarctic Territory and Friends of Imperial College which promotes the public understanding of science and the College.

In non executive roles, we draw upon our experience of helping organisations to improve performance, embark on new ventures and establish market position, together with project management techniques to obtain the best value and performance from consultants, advisers and suppliers. We also have skills in talent management and succession planning.

chairing and facilitation

Effective chairing is a key element of any event, whether a board meeting, conference or public gathering. A good chair helps to clarify objectives, ensure equitable participation and encourage creative thinking, whilst dealing with sensitive issues, allocating responsibilities and agreeing actions. Particularly importantly, an effective chair understands the importance of good time keeping, particularly at conferences where speakers habitually over-run causing irritation both for the audience and subsequent speakers. A trained mediator, Sandi Rhys Jones uses this skill when managing meetings and facilitating debate.

Good relationships, whether business or personal, between clients or staff, are difficult to restore when conflict becomes a dispute. We use mediation to resolve disputes instead of seeking remedies through the courts, where the results are not predictable, costs are high and the process time consuming. Sandi Rhys Jones uses her mediation training and skills in day-to-day management, and has developed training that helps staff and managers both deal not only with conflict but also manage change positively.

training and talent development

Establishing and then sustaining new ways of working are best realised if everyone is committed to the need for change and understands their role in achieving it. Once information has been gathered and a strategic direction clarified, we can help focus effort on meeting market demands and changing culture by:

  • improving communications
  • training managers and personnel
  • managing corporate identity design and implementation.
We help managers to communicate new strategies and to demonstrate the relevance of the corporate vision. The skills developed in carrying out these tasks are equally valuable in sustaining a committed workforce and the effective delivery of services.

We organise training courses in:

  • leadership
  • interpersonal skills
  • conflict avoidance and management
  • marketing and sales.

We devised and led a series of training seminars on Unconscious Bias around the UK, Cushman & Wakefield sponsored the events, attended not only by their own workforce but also by other companies in the sector. The objective was to provide an open but non threatening environment to generate debate on some of the issues the property and construction industry faces with its global workforce and business. Any team working together, whether it is leaders, managers or first-line reports will be made up of people with different personalities, skills, thinking style and ways of working and communicating. The difference between a good and a great team is when these difference are recognised and celebrated so that they may be used to maximize success and forward- thinking.

RhysJones has been providing training programmes to the construction industry for many years, in the UK and abroad, on a wide variety of marketing, management and diversity topics which are detailed separately. We run small workshops or give presentations and training for larger groups in areas such as project proposals, client presentations, marketing and sales, customer care, public relations and the internet. Our trainers bring a combination of experience in marketing, journalism, public relations, media, presentations and lecturing.
